No one likes it when their boat breaks down or has problems, but you can be assured that if you bring your boat to The Great Outdoors Marine for service, you will have an efficient and high quality service experience.
We are an authorized Mercury, Yamaha, Honda outboard and Mercruiser engine dealer and service center for West Virginia and southern Ohio.
Our service department has factory-trained and certified technicians, state of the art tools and diagnostic equipment, and a huge inventory of parts, which helps minimize the length of time your boat is in the shop. We also emphasize preventive maintenance, so that if your boat is in for service, we can suggest minor services to help prevent future problems and give you more fun time on the water.
Our service manager Scott Miller has been with us for 20+ years. He literally learned the marine business from the ground up, having graduated from Marshall University with an accounting degree and no experience in the marine business. He has attended schools at Mercury, Honda and Yamaha, and has done online training through our manufacturers, but he is very self-motivated and the greatest part of his learning has been on the job. Scott has become an excellent customer service representative and always takes time to help a customer whether it’s concerning a major service job or picking out the right wheel bearings for their trailer. Scott is married to Tammy, has 3 sons and 2 daughters, and enjoys doing woodworking in his spare time.
Jarrell has been with The Great Outdoors Marine for 15 years and has been in the marine business for many years. He has built himself an excellent reputation through the years and he is very popular with our customers, who appreciate his skills as well as his pleasant personality, and they often specify that they want him to work on their boat. He is Mercury and Mercruiser certified technician, and has done a lot of E-skills training with Mercury, Yamaha and Honda. Jarrell has 2 daughters and 2 grandchildren that he loves dearly, and is also active in his church. He enjoys everything about working at The Great Outdoors because he is around boats all the time and the owners are good people to work for.
Ron has been a service technician in the marine business his whole adult life (38 years), and has extensive training and skills. He is a Yamaha master technician, a Johnson/Evinrude master technician, is Honda-certified, and Mercury/Mercruiser factory trained. He is a local boy, graduating from Wayne High School in 1977, and has been married to wife Vicki for 38 years. He was a football player (All-American, 1st team All-State and All-Conference), and still supports the local high school teams. He loves the outdoors and riding ATV’s, hiking, boating, traveling, and going to the YMCA. He has been with The Great Outdoors since 2009, and thinks that it being a locally-owned business is great (the owners are his next-door neighbors!) and that it has a good facility.
Gary has been a rigger with The Great Outdoors for 13 years. This is his second round of working for us – when he was in high school and a couple years after that, he worked at the Beech Fork Marina. Like many of our employees, Gary is a local guy. He is married to Jenny and has two sons, Isaac and Nicky, who are very active in sports. Gary likes to play ball with his boys, and also likes to hunt and fish in his spare time. He enjoys working on boats and meeting new people.
Shawn has been a rigger on our staff since 2002. He previously worked for another boat dealership, and also has a lot of hands-on experience with other types of vehicles. He is one of our best in “training” new boat owners and getting them off on the right foot when they pick up their new boats. He is married to Mica and has a step-daughter. He deer hunts a lot in the fall and rides ATV’s, as well as being an avid Nascar fan.
